So far, many of the levels added seem to retain the basic visual style and design principles of the ones they are based on. He’s added levels to the game from titles like Banjo-Kazooie, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and more. These levels come from a modder named ItzSka who has been posting videos of his work on YouTube. This isn’t the first mod for Kaze, either! Check out Kaze’s other mod, Colossal Circuits, which adds an entirely new playable area to Mario 64. Regardless, this is one super cool mod to get your Mario-on before Odyssey ’s release. At times the trailer makes it seem like certain sections of the game become trivial, such as passing by the blowing snowman in Cool, Cool Mountain.Īlso, having a player-controllable platform that you can just place wherever and whenever you want breaks certain areas of the game, as the trailer demonstrates by allowing Mario access to stars that would otherwise require him to explore the map and perform key actions. While the mod seems super cool, it doesn’t look like Mario 64 was designed with the possession mechanic in mind. The only thing you can’t seem to do is use your hat as an attack, but given the fact that this is a one-person game mod we can forgive the slight lapse. You can even possess random birds flying around the castle! You can see in Kaze’s trailer video here that you can hop on your hat and possess enemies just as you can Odyssey. The Odyssey trailer has Mario possessing everything from a goomba to a Tyrannosaurus. In it, you can see that Mario has gained a fancy new hat that gives him new abilities, like spinning around and smashing baddies, or tossing it out and using it as a platform.īut perhaps the most intriguing new ability is the power to toss that hat onto another’s head and essentially possess them. The latest Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey, was showcased at E3 just last Tuesday. Why wait for the actual Super Mario Odyssey when you can get most of the gameplay with this Super Mario 64 mod?
